Human brain organoids take over 90% of a mouse's cortex in new Nature study

A Stanford team reports in Nature a new living model for studying human neural circuits: mice were engineered to lack most of their cortex, leaving room for pea-sized human brain organoids to expand, mature and wire into the host nervous system — eventually occupying over 90% of the cortical space.

The model offers researchers an unprecedented view of human neurons operating inside a living brain, opening new avenues for studying brain disease.
