Kevin Roose argues both the "stochastic parrots" and "it's all marketing hype" positions have been easily disprovable since about 2023 for anyone who actually spends time using AI. Yet many people—including some AI journalists—never tried the tools due to a mix of fear, pride and corporate IT policy, which he calls a "civilizational L".
