Helium browser adds CNAME uncloaking for stronger default ad blocking
uwukko · x · 2026-09-20
- The latest Helium browser update ships with CNAME uncloaking, significantly improving its default ad blocking.
- The trick it defeats: sites like Twitch mangle ad traffic via DNS so it looks like normal requests — e.g. video-edge-abc[.]ttv points to Twitch while video-edge-def[.]ttv actually resolves to an ad server (bad[.]guys[.]ads), sneaking past domain-based blocklists.
- Uncloaking reveals the real destination, blocking the ad request without breaking the site.
