TypeSafe AI launches Jev, a model for structured decisions that offloads classification from LLMs
bibryam · x · 2026-09-20
TypeSafe AI has launched Jev, a model built for structured decisions, targeting the many LLM calls that only need a classification, a choice, or a score. Developers supply context and typed questions; Jev returns answers the application can act on directly.
The author proposes a practical division of labor: Jev classifies a customer request, an LLM writes the reply, and application code checks permissions before taking action. Several early projects are already exploring this split.
The article includes a minimal Hello World example using Vercel's AI SDK, where the model estimates the probability that an input is a greeting. Jev also supports choices among defined options with per-option probabilities, and scores against ordered descriptions.
