Open models hit 78% of Vercel token volume; Moonshot, DeepSeek, Z.ai spend tops OpenAI

Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch reports that open-weight models took 78.4% of token volume on Vercel AI Gateway in a single day (closed: 21.6%). By actual spend, Moonshot AI and DeepSeek rank #3 and #4, and combined with Z.ai their spend exceeds OpenAI's (#2). Note: this is inference spend across providers (mostly US), not direct revenue for the open-weight labs.
Separately, DrEliDavid cites data showing Anthropic's dollar spend steadily declining, mocking its reported $2 trillion IPO plans amid market-share loss.
