Open-source model exec calls 'open-source overtaking frontier' traffic data nonsense
zephyr_z9 · x · 2026-09-20
thdxr, from a company built around open-source models, dismisses recent claims that open-source models are overtaking frontier models in traffic as nonsense: most platforms see so little traffic they only share percentages instead of real numbers, and no router has any reason to see 99% of frontier traffic. He argues companies are just manufacturing mindshare around a hyped trend.
