MCP Apps Night: Apps Decomposed into Atomic Agent-Invocable Capabilities
schwentker · x · 2026-09-20
A 7-part thread from MCP Apps Night (hosted by CopilotKit at WorkOS SF) on what "an app" means when agents invoke capabilities without loading the whole thing:
- AG-UI as Lego blocks: Tyler (CopilotKit) frames AG-UI as handing agents tools as blocks—the frontend isn't a screen the agent talks about, it's part of the agent's operating environment.
- Atoms, not apps: AG-UI creator idosal1: trip planning doesn't need 10 apps, just a room selector, a map, an approval card. Apps become capability sets, not destinations.
- MCP's supply-chain problem: Tobin South (Anthropic) notes tool lists can change at any time—"imagine Node packages changing under you with no version pin."
- Claude Code auto mode: per-step confirmations look safer, but users stop reading by prompt 20; auto mode shifts attention to budgets, scopes and thresholds.
- Real-world use: one attendee ran an entire event's ops (orders, allergy lists, Slack, waitlists, expenses) through ChatGPT Voice—"the dashboard didn't vanish, it got decomposed."
