Australia has done precious little to prepare for AI dangers, Guardian column warns

A Guardian column by Australian MP Zoe Daniel argues that Australia has done precious little to prepare for the dangers of AI, calling it the most significant technological development since the splitting of the atom. It cites Anthropic researchers' prediction that AI could "kill all humans" within a decade and CEO Dario Amodei's warnings about rogue AI agents, as well as proposed rules under which everything Australians post online could be scraped for AI. Daniel urges stronger governance leadership, pointing to Europe's ahead-of-curve work on safety, ethics, and regulation.
