Users report ChatGPT suddenly asking for lots of unnecessary personal info
Lakewater22 · reddit · 2026-09-19
Users report that ChatGPT's behavior has changed noticeably in the past week or two: it now proactively asks for unnecessary information, e.g. asking what time you'll attend a local event, which day, and what you're looking forward to.
Stranger still, when discussing a party, ChatGPT guessed the age of the guest of honor based on vaguely mentioned context—getting it off by a year and seemingly prompting the user to correct it, despite the user never deliberately sharing that info. Some suspect the model is actively collecting data and calibrating a user profile.
