Claude Code Max overage pricing: 2 extra days could cost $925+ on top of $200/mo
julianharris · x · 2026-09-19
Developer Julian Harris details the pricing landmines of Claude Code Max 20 (£150/$200 per month): after hitting his weekly limit with 2 days left in the cycle, his options were to stop working or pay API rates—his recent usage would nominally cost $3,295 over those 2 days (with caching), so even buying extra Claude Code credits would add at least $925 to his $200/month bill, effectively a 20x premium on overage.
He also notes a well-known insider workaround: top-tier AI researchers literally maintain dozens of Claude Code accounts to dodge quota limits. The post includes a cost-comparison table of all options.
