Academic Reflects on LLM Damage to Institutions—and Hopes for Better Evaluation

The author expects LLMs to hurt academia, hopefully confined to institutions—review processes, hiring criteria—rather than our general love of reading, which was already declining. He hopes the shake-up might force better systems: academics may yearn more for genuine writing, and evaluation could shift back to the papers themselves instead of aggregate metrics.
