Disney's VertiGo Robot Uses Twin Propellers to Drive Straight Up Walls

VertiGo, a wall-climbing robot from Disney Research and ETH Zürich, ditches suction cups, magnets, and adhesives. Two tiltable propellers press its four wheels against the wall: the rear pushes toward the wall while the front pushes upward, letting the robot transition from floor to vertical surface — the genuinely hard part most wall-climbers never solve. One propeller holds you on a wall; it takes two to get you there. Built at the end of 2015, it remains a robotics classic a decade later.
