Anthropic's $1M protein design contest excludes China; startup Geodesic beat it by a day with $1M cash prizes

Anthropic and Adaptyv Bio launched a protein design contest: 5 frontier challenges, 5,000+ designs validated in automated labs, up to $1M in Claude credits (no cash prize). Claude also optimized 30+ open-source biomolecular models in under four weeks (4x inference speedup) with a low-memory mode handling 10,000+ token systems on one H100 node. However, terms Section 3.1 bars residents of China, Russia and other regions despite the "open to everyone" claim. A day earlier, week-old startup Geodesic Intelligence announced grand challenges: $100K credits per accepted problem, $1M cash per verified solution, open to all nationalities. Geodesic's NovaStack spans an agent workbench (NovaDDE), all-atom structure model NovaAtom-Lite-Preview, and its own wet-lab validation system NovaLab.
