India hosts ~20% of global chip design engineers, and the real share is likely higher

Industry discussion claims a large share of major chip designs are partly done in India, which accounts for roughly 20% of the world's chip design engineers. Analyst Jay Goldberg argues this understates it: many US chip companies run big design teams in India, and their EDA tooling spend is likely reported under the parent company, obscuring India's true footprint in chip design.
