Responding to a discussion on effective altruism, the author says his deepest philosophical moments came from reading Quine and Rawls, and that philosophy is only a small part of his sense of meaning. He relates to EA the way he does to YIMBY — as a 'magical mental toolbox' in a specific context — and takes most seriously the criticism that EA can too easily become 'The Way The Truth and The Light.'
