Anthropic says Claude now leads 26% of its own model R&D
MrsSynchronie · reddit · 2026-09-19
Per AP, Anthropic says Claude is helping build the next, more intelligent version of itself. The model now "leads" 26% of the lab's model R&D — completing most tasks end-to-end from a high-level prompt while remaining under human supervision, not yet fully autonomous. About 90% of R&D is done in "collaboration" with Claude (large chunks of work under close human direction). The pace is notable: Claude led none of the R&D in February and a quarter of it by August. Anthropic didn't say how close it believes it is to recursive self-improvement.
