Dev open-sources depth-based green screen: no backdrop needed with RealSense D436
chrismatthieu · x · 2026-09-19
Developer chrismatthieu released an open-source virtual green screen tool built on Intel RealSense D436 stereo depth cameras: it keeps only RGB video within a configurable near/far depth window and replaces everything else with green, blur, an image, or transparency — no green backdrop required.
- No AI person segmentation: geometry alone decides what stays in frame
- Requires librealsense2/pyrealsense2 2.58.x, OpenCV, NumPy, PyQt5
- Verified on Jetson Orin (Linux); macOS supported via source-built librealsense
- Can output as a virtual webcam via v4l2loopback; full source and setup scripts are on GitHub
