Developer Giulio2002 open-sourced bend-sha256: a pure Bend 2.0.5 implementation of SHA-256 with a machine-checked functional correctness proof against a separate executable FIPS 180-4 specification. The universal proof covers preprocessing and the complete digest computation, with no external crypto library involved.
- The author also built an agentic pipeline ("AUTOResearch") to automatically improve performance, with early results suggesting it can get within 2x of an optimized version
