The overlooked risk in AI regulation: capture by militants, not just by firms

Commenting on how devilish it is to supervise the LLM industry — where does the information come from, who judges — @lugaricano argues the debate overstates capture by incumbent firms and overlooks capture by militants.

Militants, he writes, believe neither in objective information nor in mitigation measures. He draws a parallel to Lenin's opposition to social-democratic reforms (higher wages, shorter hours) because they would reduce revolutionary chances, and to similar stances among some climate advocates, noting a recent conversation where one laid out this position openly — and suggesting it may now hold for AI as well.
