Tencent-Backed AI Startup Valued at $1.42B to Release First Open-Weight LLM

A secretive Chinese AI startup backed by Tencent and valued at $1.42 billion is preparing to release its first open-weight LLM as early as this month, according to The Information.
Founded in February by Tsinghua professor Jifeng Dai, the company's approach is to take an existing pretrained model, modify its structure, and improve it through midtraining, posttraining, and reinforcement learning.
