Wiring Claude Code, Codex and Cursor to one shared MCP memory server
Asly97 · reddit · 2026-09-18
Tired of every MCP client starting from zero, the author pointed Claude Code, Codex and Cursor at a single MCP memory server (built with vilix ai) so project context flows between tools: plans, bugs and progress made in one are available in another.
- Static info (stack, conventions) still lives in claude.md; the MCP store holds living context: decisions, breakages, where work left off.
- Key lesson: models are lazy about calling memory tools, so many prompts start with "check memory first".
- Biggest surprise: much of the "this tool sucks" frustration was really "this tool has amnesia" frustration.
The author calls pointing every client at the same memory the highest-leverage 10 minutes spent.
