Google DeepMind researcher Stephan Hoyer (retweeted by fellow DeepMind researcher Danilo Rezende) pushed back on optimistic takes about world models, arguing that most people without hands-on experience fail to appreciate just how hard—nearly impossible—it is to simulate the physical world with high fidelity. He likens it to people who've never set foot in a wet lab assuming you can think your way to engineering a new virus.
