METR President Explains Mission: Making AI 'Going Rogue' Evidence Public
basedjensen · x · 2026-09-18
METR President Chris Painter has published a public explainer of the organization's mission. Since 2022, METR has worked with frontier labs including OpenAI on one core goal: if evidence exists inside an AI company that its models are becoming autonomous, hard to steer, or close to going rogue, that information should reach governments and the public outside the company's walls.
A commenter also noted METR employees must disclose romantic relationships or cohabitation with lab employees, calling it an unusually high bar of integrity and conflict clearing.
