Eaton executives shared striking numbers on the AI data-center buildout at a recent conference:
- Announced data-center projects totaled 307GW at Q2 earnings; just one month later the figure rose to 342GW
- The industry's entire installed base today is only about 50GW, meaning planned construction is roughly 6-7x what currently exists
- Most of this won't convert to revenue until after 2027–2028, marking a long-cycle infrastructure boom
Shared by analyst Ben Bajarin and Peter Boockvar, who called the scale "jaw dropping" — underscoring the widening gap between AI compute demand and electrical infrastructure supply.
