Opal Zero launches: zero standing permissions and just-in-time access for AI agents

Opal has launched Opal Zero, an end-to-end access governance platform purpose-built for AI agents, marketed as delivering zero standing permissions, zero human toil, and zero friction.
The core idea reframes access control from periodic reviews of a few hundred human identities to millions of micro-decisions: AI-driven contextual decisions evaluate each request's intent, ownership, and purpose, grant dynamic just-in-time access scoped to exactly what the agent needs, and enforce security policies across existing MCP gateways.
Commentator aakashgupta notes that every team shipping agents hits the same access wall: broad permissions on a human get caught at review time, but on an agent they move at machine speed — one bad prompt or leaked key can burn through everything that access could touch.
