Doomer AI arguments mirror dark-forest thinking — and we're terrible at predicting the future
dbasch · x · 2026-09-17
Responding to the doomer claim that AI might exterminate humanity as a side effect — the way we destroy ecosystems when leveling a field — dbasch pushes back: the scenario is possible, but countless other futures are too, and there's no reason to privilege this one. The analogy fails because AI was designed by us, while we weren't designed by inferior species. He likens it to dark-forest space-fear narratives, argues we're terrible at predicting the future, and concludes we should keep handling problems as they arise.
