After a former Anthropic researcher resigned with a stark warning that AI could wipe out humanity by 2030—and current alignment lead Evan Hubinger claimed >10% odds within a decade—the discourse went national.

The University of Pennsylvania's student newspaper The Daily Pennsylvanian gathered campus experts to push back: Robert Ghrist, Associate Dean at the School of Engineering, called it suspicious that everyone raised precise timelines and threats almost simultaneously, while social-policy experts deemed an AI extinction outcome highly unlikely.
