FT Alphaville: Frontier-Model Query Share Falls From 3/5 to 1/4 — the Pin for the AI Bubble?
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-09-17
Citing FT Alphaville, the share of queries truly requiring closed-weight frontier models has fallen from 3/5 at the start of the year to just 1/4. OpenAI and Anthropic, unlisted and unrated, shouldn't be financially systemic at this stage — yet their centrality and circular financing mean if revenue growth can't catch spending, the shock hits cloud revenue, chip orders and balance sheets at once. The pin for the AI bubble, if any, may be these two companies' revenue-vs-spend curves.
