R2T2: open-source streaming ASR model adds an explicit wait state instead of always guessing
dr_cintas · x · 2026-09-17
R2T2 (Real Real-Time Transcribe), an open-source streaming ASR model, is now live with code and weights on GitHub, Hugging Face, and ModelScope, plus a hosted demo.
- Key idea: most streaming ASR systems must emit text at every step and fall back on language priors when audio is ambiguous. R2T2 introduces an explicit wait state — it holds when acoustic evidence is insufficient and commits once evidence arrives, avoiding costly premature predictions.
- Built for voice agents on a vLLM backend, supporting English and Mandarin, with real-time replay demos on the site.
- A full technical report will be released separately.
