NetEase Youdao open-sources R2T2, a 2B streaming ASR model with 200ms latency

NetEase Youdao has open-sourced Confucius R2T2, a 2B-parameter streaming ASR model that transcribes in real time with just 200ms latency. Code and weights are fully open.
Nearly all streaming ASR systems are built to emit output at every step: when the audio is ambiguous, they fall back on language priors and guess, because staying silent isn't an architectural option. R2T2 instead introduces an explicit wait state — it holds when acoustic evidence is insufficient and commits only when evidence arrives. Each word, once recognized, is committed and never rewritten.
