Open-Source Agent Harnesses Like Hermes Matter as Much as Open-Weight Models

Developer Grant Hawkins argues an underappreciated point: open-source agent harnesses like Hermes or OpenClaw are at least as important as open-weight models.
Even if you have to use closed-source AI, these harnesses let you carry your context seamlessly from one model to another and prevent vendor lock-in—shifting the anti-lock-in battle from the model layer to the orchestration layer.
