Google DeepMind co-founder Shane Legg announced the DeepMind Institute, arguing that today's AI capabilities and the pace of innovation suggest AGI is on the horizon. Drawing on 25 years working toward AGI — including 10+ years at Google DeepMind on technical and societal perspectives — he says the new institute will deepen understanding of its implications. Anthropic's Jack Clark amplified the news, noting the alignment between the Anthropic and DeepMind institutes on singularity talk.
