Databricks engineer shares lessons from rolling out Astra to 3,500 engineers: it clearly beats Opus 5 and Sol 5.6 on complex system-design tasks, coding spend rose 60%, but gains on medium/low-complexity tasks look saturated. They piloted with 200 users via Unity Gateway and give Astra a separate sub-budget to steer engineers toward cheaper models for routine work.
