Minimax H3 video generations plagued by top-of-frame smearing artifacts, 10 fixes tried in vain
DoskvolDenizen · reddit · 2026-09-17
A user on r/StableDiffusion reports persistent smearing/warping artifacts at the top of the frame when generating videos with Minimax H3 reference images, unresolved after days of troubleshooting. Attempts so far:
- Multiple samplers/schedulers (artifact persists with the stock resmultistep/simple combo);
- Step counts 20–40, resolutions from 768p to 2.5MP (all divisible by 32);
- Various models (pruned BF16 ref/fl, smhfacct hybrids) and VAEs (bf16/int8), plus tiled VAE decode;
- Durations 5s–15s, different reference image counts/sizes, disabling comfy kitchen and H3 SLA, updating PyTorch;
- Reproduced on a local 5090 (Python 3.13) and a RunPod RTX Pro 6000 (Python 3.12), across old and current ComfyUI versions.
A separate finding: resmultistep/simple intermittently produces short horizontal lines in the top-left; switching to ersde/beta fixes it at a slight quality cost. The author suspects a known H3 issue and is asking the community for help.
