soleio · x · 2026-09-17
Patrick O'Shaughnessy published a long interview with Michael Moritz, who joined Sequoia in 1986 and co-led the firm with Doug Leone from 1995 to 2012, investing in Google, Yahoo, PayPal, and Stripe. His new book Ausländer traces his parents' escape from Nazi Germany. Topics include his famous Steve Jobs profile, why Don Valentine hired him, his most revealing interview question, monomania and the cost of greatness, and AI. Alfred Lin shared an anecdote of Moritz scribbling "Profit = POWER" at a Zappos board meeting, which inspired Zappos' lesser-known core value #8, "Doing More with Less."
