Why today's YC startups are racing to become nodes in the AI "production web"

Reflecting on a 2023 risk taxonomy by Andrew Critch and Stuart Russell, the author highlights the concept of a "production web": most AI companies — as models, software factories, or hardware production — are now competing to become critical parts of one.
He argues such systems could be extremely profitable for AI companies and useful for end users, making them hard to slow down. A middle state could see medicine, food, power, and science research flourish, but there is an end state where, like the Lorax, we lament letting AI-controlled factories grow unchecked.
