Paper author clarifies: GenAI-exposed workers saw ~10% relative wage losses, not absolute declines

joseazar · x · 2026-09-16

Author joseazar responds to criticism of the GenAI wage paper: diff-in-diff estimates show the least-exposed workers gained 10% relative to the most-exposed after 2022, implying a negative causal effect of AI exposure on wages. But absolute real-wage gains for non-exposed workers can't be attributed to AI without a counterfactual. Clarifications added to the updated paper.
