Apple has unveiled Apple Reference Image, a pioneering approach for verified photography that tackles AI-era image authenticity.
- The raw digital negative is hashed directly in the sensor at capture time.
- The hashed data is uploaded to the cloud, where it is rendered through secure, recorded, verifiable steps: demosaicing, tone-mapping, and compression.
- Because every step is auditable, an image can be traced back to an unmodified original capture, proving its "authenticity."
It provides a full hardware-to-cloud verification chain for real photos.
