ANYbotics begins customer deliveries of ANYmal X, first legged robot certified for explosive atmospheres

Swiss robotics company ANYbotics has started customer deliveries of ANYmal X, the world's first legged inspection robot certified for explosive atmospheres (ATEX). The project took four years of engineering and more than ten patents.
The author, who has deployed robots in oil and gas environments, notes that hazardous-zone certification is brutal — every component and failure mode scrutinized by independent bodies — and doing it for a legged robot with high-power motors, a large battery, exposed cameras, autonomous docking, stair climbing and narrow walkways was considered impossible by most engineers.
