Zuckerberg: Meta delayed Muse for months over safety, in jab at Anthropic's slowdown call

Responding to the industry-wide debate over slowing AI progress, Mark Zuckerberg said Meta delayed shipping its Muse model for several months to focus on safety and security — and that Meta never demanded others slow down first, calling safety 'part of our day-to-day work.'
The post is widely read as a jab at Anthropic and Dario Amodei's call for a global AI slowdown. Zuckerberg argued that every lab has the responsibility and incentive to train models safely at its own pace, that misaligned agents lose users so alignment carries natural commercial incentives, and that trust and alignment are rapidly becoming the capabilities that differentiate models and agents — rather than a coordinated capability pause.
The debate escalated after an Anthropic researcher resigned warning companies were 'gambling with our lives,' followed by statements from Amodei, Sam Altman, and Elon Musk.
