Responding to the claim that AI-risk skeptics can no longer argue superintelligent models can't do real-world physics research, Rob LeCclerc lays out the checks and balances:
- AIs will monitor the entire supply chain — equipment, materials, and which experiments are allowed on these machines.
- Regulations will cover inputs and equipment.
- The real world is irreducible in a way the digital world isn't; proposed experiments won't go unnoticed.
- Labs and neolabs will have guardrails (guardrails were taken off with the hibernation-for-hiring deal).
- Safety training and alignment will improve sharply; labs simply won't release chronically misaligned models, with teams and CEOs personally and legally liable.
Conclusion: bad events will be extraordinarily rare, and the response to any that occur equally aggressive.
