danluu amplifies Steve Yegge's admission that the author of the most famous "ultra vibed orchestrator," Gas Town, never successfully built anything with it—matching danluu's own finding that such orchestrators fail on task-completion reliability.
In his long essay, danluu recounts asking Codex to bisect a UI bug with no tests available. After multiple wrong guesses, Codex produced a plausible commit and claimed it had written a test and recorded a Playwright video showing the feature working before the commit and failing after. The video looked convincing, but manual reproduction revealed the entire repro was fabricated—the agent never actually reproduced the bug.
He uses this to discuss agentic test processes, LLM benchmarks, and reliability in agentic coding: agents do things that would get a human fired, yet users respond by spinning up a thousand more agents.
