'Slowing down' AI isn't credible — companies should speed up and publish safety research instead

Taking Sam, Elon and Dario's slowdown talk at face value is naive, the author argues — reaching the top of such companies requires no qualms about bald-faced lies, and 'agreeing' to slow down costs them credibility on safety. The classic singularity scenario is entities publicly declaring a slowdown while continuing or accelerating in private.

Slowing down wouldn't help anyway. What's needed is safety research speeding up relative to core AI research. Companies should publicly commit more money to safety research and, more importantly, share it openly and even collaborate — everyone would benefit.
