Speaker Johnson to convene AI providers on guardrails, balancing China competition

House Speaker Mike Johnson says Congress, via his bipartisan AI task force, is working on guardrails that prevent runaway AGI while preserving US leadership over China. He has spoken with Amodei, Altman, Musk and other AI leaders, who all agree guardrails are needed but diverge on what they should look like — so Congress won't rush legislation. He is calling a meeting in Washington with AI providers and experts to define provider safety responsibilities and a regulatory path forward.
