Why an AI military takeover is unlikely: armies won't hand over the reins

Jake Steckler argues that 'rogue AI seizes hard power' takeover scenarios are improbable: an AI would need to physically defeat a military, and humans would have to carelessly hand over control. Militaries are unlikely to fully delegate command even if they wanted to, given overhaul costs. He adds that overstating full-blown takeover fears can be counterproductive, diverting attention from realistic misalignment and control risks in military AI. SOhEigeartaigh notes this also undermines the shakiest part of the 'decisive strategic advantage' race narrative — the idea of a quickly supercharged AI military.
