iOS 27 ships with full Siri AI, on-device video captions, tuning for old iPhones

Apple has released iOS 27 to all users, supporting down to iPhone 11 and SE2. The headline feature is the new Siri powered by Apple Intelligence: it understands complex natural language, reads on-screen context, and chains multi-step cross-app commands (e.g. navigate to an address mentioned in a text), plus a dedicated visual intelligence entry in the camera app.
AI imaging also improves: cleaner object removal, Extend (outpainting) and Reframe (edge-side preview + cloud-completed viewpoint shifts), offline on-device video captioning discovered in testing, and realistic image generation in Playgrounds.
Non-AI highlights: an adjustable Liquid Glass slider for readability; app cold starts up to 30% faster, high-res photo loading 70%, AirDrop 80%; the long-requested Chinese-holiday-aware alarm; customizable camera UI, new photo views, frame export, AirPods custom EQ. Upgrade advice: iPhone 14+ should upgrade; iPhone 11-13 already on iOS 26 should too; older-device users staying on iOS 18 may want to skip. The full Siri experience remains unavailable in mainland China.
