Vercel AI SDK harness layer adds native subscription auth for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and more
cramforce · x · 2026-09-15
Vercel's AI SDK harness layer now authenticates coding agents via their native subscriptions wherever supported — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Cline, GitHub Copilot, Grok Build, OpenCode and more.
- No code changes or new settings: API keys take priority, then the host's existing subscription login; credentials and OAuth refreshes are resolved at the host boundary and never leave it
- In sandbox mode, harnesses receive placeholder credentials and the real token is injected into outbound requests on the host
- Default auto mode reads native subscriptions when no AI Gateway credentials are set; ai-gateway mode never does
- The author notes it relies on the vendors' own SDK behavior, so it should be TOS-safe (IANAL)
In effect, developers can deploy agents server-side while using the subscription already on their laptop instead of paying for API access.
