An AI automation agency owner on Reddit is questioning whether charging clients $0.40 per minute for AI voice agent overages is too low.
The rate currently covers voice API, LLM usage, and telephony costs with a margin, but he argues it may not account for the real overhead: monitoring call quality, fixing latency, tweaking prompts on live calls, and the monthly administrative burden of tracking and billing overages.
He asks peers whether they stay near $0.40, raise rates to $0.75–$1.00, or push consistently capped clients into higher subscription tiers instead of line-item billing, to stay profitable without triggering churn from surprise price hikes.
