Templeton backs $3.6M Florea AI project on LLMs and human flourishing

The Schwartz Reisman Institute detailed Florea AI, a three-year, US$3.6M Templeton-funded project led by Karina Vold, Ashton Anderson and Purdue's Louis Tay, exploring "virtue-centred AI" — designing LLMs to support long-term human wellbeing rather than short-term satisfaction. A July workshop at UofT brought together computer science, philosophy and psychology researchers, motivated by therapy and companionship ranking as the top chatbot use case for two straight years despite evidence of negative effects.
