Kevin Bass published an 'audit' of Anthropic's finances and called for a Congressional investigation, arguing Anthropic has built a regulatory capture machine whose structural financial incentives cannot be turned off.
Cited evidence includes National Philanthropic Trust's FY2025 Form 990 (22,258 grants) showing large flows to METR's network — RAND $61.6M, Founders Pledge $78.8M, FAR AI $14.4M, Effective Ventures $11.6M, Epoch AI $4.1M, Redwood Research $1.1M — with no direct grant to METR or ARC; plus a Forbes estimate that the Moskovitz–Tuna donated Anthropic stake is worth $500M and was moved into a nonprofit vehicle in early 2025. Open Philanthropy (now Coefficient Giving) clarified it never invested in Anthropic and the donated stake did not go to them.
